Learn to surf with us in perfect weather, perfect waves and with highly experienced, fun and qualified instructors in small groups.
Surf Canaries Surf School is based at the foot of the sand dunes of Maspalomas in Playa del Inglés - impossible to be closer to the beach!
Our local beach break Playa del Inglés has excellent waves for learning and improving when conditions are right.
If surfing conditions in Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas are not suitable, we have a number of secret spots around the whole island which we take you to in our VW surf van.

Customise your surfing experience with us!
- For complete beginners, we offer one day taster lessons.
- Our beginner courses (anything from 1 to 5 days) are aimed at complete beginners and people that have surfed a little before.
- If you have surfed quite a bit before and/or have participated in several beginner courses, you could choose one of our improver courses (anything from 1 to 5 days).
- For some family fun we offer lessons for the whole family - this would normally be for one day, but can always be amended.
- Those of you who prefer the undivided attention from one of our instructors, we offer private coaching - or semi-private coaching if you are coming with a friend or partner.
This summer, we offer additional afternoon sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays & on Saturdays in the morning as well!! Please get in touch through our bookings page :)

What do I need?
You need to wear swimwear, bring a towel, change of clothes, suncream, sun hat and a smile :)

In an attempt to reduce water wastage, we offer a water refill system. So please bring your own reusable water bottle and fill it up with as much water you need for the day! :)
If you don´t have a water bottle, we have got alternative options as well!
Timetable
We generally start at 9:30 in the mornings and finish up around 13.30.
However, we are highly dependent on surfing conditions and tides so this timetable might change on some days.
Our classes run from Monday to Friday.
This summer, we offer additional afternoon sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays & on Saturdays in the morningas well!! Please get in touch through our bookings page :)
Prices
You can choose any number of days - our surf classes run from Monday to Friday without a specific starting day. You can even schedule break days in between if you need some time to recover :)
For online bookings of at least 24 hours in advance we offer a 10% discount on the prices stated below. Just fill in the details in our booking form and reply to our confirmation email.

Rent a surfboard for a day? Our surf shop lies directly at the beach in Playa del Inglés; just walk in, rent yourself a board and go surfing straight away! Closer to the surfing area on the beach is impossible...
We have a wide selection of surfboards for you to choose from.
Surfboard Categories
Standard rentals include Softtops, BICs and NSPs of various sizes - prices start at € 15 for two hours, € 20 for the day.
Premium rentals are custom surfboards of different sizes - prices start at € 20 for two hours, € 25 for the day.

SURF & SLEEP
Pair your surf course with one of our accommodation options in the south of Gran Canaria. We have two different locations for our Surf & Sleep packages. The apartments are to be paired with a 3 day, 4 day or 5 day surf course.
About us
Our permanent team of instructors paired with small groups of 1 instructor for maximum 5 students are what sets our surf school apart from others. We will tailor each of our courses to fit your skill level and personal goals - essential for a fun and unforgettable surfing experience!
Danny
Originally a surfer from West Wales, Danny has been living on the Canary Islands since 2004 and is the founder and director of Surf Canaries. Danny is qualified as a National Surf Coach with the Spanish Surf Federation and is a Level II coach with the British Surfing Association and International Surfing Association. Highly experienced in the process of teaching surfing, he will enthusiastically take you through your first moments of surfing, right up to perfecting your technique and new moves.
"Although our Surf School has its well studied "method" for teaching how to surf, this method also has to be flexible to accommodate each students individuality. Each person learns in a different way, this should be treated individually and with attention to detail, patience and above all with a sense of fun."
With years of experience, Danny is a tireless student of the science: "how people learn to surf" . Danny brings to the team different teaching techniques which fit specifically to each student.
Jordán
Jordán is one of the best qualified surf coaches from the Canary Islands with his wealth of experience in teaching spanning over 15 years. He became a waterman at a very early age and continued his career in this world.
Jordán has been our head instructor for many years now and will make sure that each participant receives top class instruction in safety.
He has an excellent way of analysing and explaining to every level of surfer how to improve their technique and really brings to the table his intimate knowledge of the ocean and local conditions.
Jordán also trains a local team of surfers to a high level and often competes himself in the Canarian Circuit.
Julien
Julien is originally from Madrid. With family near Hossegor in France, it was there where he fell in love with surfing when he caught his first wave. Since then he enjoys spreading that feeling to others.
Julien enjoys teaching and is always training to improve as a sports professional. What he likes most about teaching surfing is seeing how people get excited in the water and experience something that they will remember for a lifetime.
Francesca
Fra is originally from Italy and speaks fluent Italian ;-), Spanish and English.
She started her surf coaching career in Western Ireland and has recently moved to the warmer waters of the Canary Islands. Francesca loves to motivate our surfers and loves it when they are having fun! She is super friendly and fun to be around.
Carlos
Carlos is mainly working in the surf shop. Being super organised he is the perfect addition to all these crazy cats;)
He is making sure that everything in the surf shop is running smoothly and as sand free as possible...
Scarlett
Scarlett is manning the surf shop in the mornings and also an excellent junior instructor.
She was born in the UK but has been living on Gran Canaria since she was 2, Scarlett is friendly, calm and easy-going. She will be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding our surf courses and board rentals, and if you are lucky, she will be in the water with you as well!
