Danny

Daniel Alcock
Daniel Alcock

Originally a surfer from West Wales, Danny has been living on the Canary Islands since 2004 and is the founder and director of Surf Canaries. Danny is qualified as a National Surf Coach with the Spanish Surf Federation and is a Level II coach with the British Surfing Association and International Surfing Association. Highly experienced in the process of teaching surfing, he will enthusiastically take you through your first moments of surfing, right up to perfecting your technique and new moves.

"Although our Surf School has its well studied "method" for teaching how to surf, this method also has to be flexible to accommodate each students individuality. Each person learns in a different way, this should be treated individually and with attention to detail, patience and above all with a sense of fun."

With years of experience, Danny is a tireless student of the science: "how people learn to surf" . Danny brings to the team different teaching techniques which fit specifically to each student.

Jordán

Jordán is one of the best qualified surf coaches from the Canary Islands with his wealth of experience in teaching spanning over 15 years. He became a waterman at a very early age and continued his career in this world.

Jordán has been our head instructor for many years now and will make sure that each participant receives top class instruction in safety.

He has an excellent way of analysing and explaining to every level of surfer how to improve their technique and really brings to the table his intimate knowledge of the ocean and local conditions.

Jordán also trains a local team of surfers to a high level and often competes himself in the Canarian Circuit.

Kasperi

Kasperi is an expert surf instructor and in charge of the day to day running of the surf school. He is the face behind the emails and the voice at the end of the phone ;)

He rose through the ranks of Surf Canaries Surf Club, becoming an excellent surfer competing on the Canarian Circuit.

Having a degree in photography he is the official photographer and videographer at Surf Canaries and is able to do what he loves - combining surfing with photography.

He truly understands how good it feels when somebody takes a photo or video of you surfing and as an excellent instructor he knows just how to get you onto that wave!

You can also book a private photo session with Kasperi - on land or in the water!

Our Surf School

Nestling at the foot of the Maspalomas sand dunes, our Surf School enjoys a great climate all year round. Combining this with world class coaching, Surf Canaries provides our surfers with a perfect training center.

We are based in Playa del Inglés in the south of Gran Canaria where we live the dream of an endless summer with year-round waves, often right outside of our surf school at the sand dunes of Maspalomas. We were set up in 2007 and quickly developed into a popular surf school due to our fame for offering high quality surf courses with a real personal feel and attention to detail.

Our local beach break Playa del Inglés has excellent waves for learning and improving when conditions are right. If surfing conditions in Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas are not suitable, we have a number of secret spots around the whole island which we take you to in our VW surf van.

The secret to our success is a culture of really concerning ourselves with the well-being of each client. We strive to ensure that each one has a fantastic experience in and out of the water, either as a one day surf experience or a week long surf course.

Out of this, we can share Gran Canaria's beauty and fantastic waves whilst giving everyone the chance to experience what it is to catch a wave...

O´Neill Partnership

Surf Canaries are proud to be official partners with the prestigious surf brand O’Neill Wetsuits.

Having been singled out as an exemplary surf school, O’Neill got in contact with us in 2021. On the day of the meeting, it was a beautiful day and there were some fun waves outside the surf school. Right on arrival, Danny relocated the meeting to the line-up and the conditions were agreed in the water whilst exchanging waves! The best way, right?!

To those who don’t know, O’Neill were the first wetsuit producer in the world founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O’Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to battle Mother Nature. From the first neoprene surf wetsuit and board leash, O’Neill also went on to create to the world’s first stitch-less board shorts.

And it is not just the very best wetsuits that align us, O’Neill’s blue line echoes strongly our environmental philosophy here at Surf Canaries. As O’Neill put it, “Our ocean mission is to minimize the impact on our planet and become a frontrunner on sustainability.  Jack O’Neill said it himself, “the ocean is alive, and we've got to take care of it”.

In 1996 Jack O’Neill founded the O’Neill Sea Odyssey as a commitment to educate the youth about ocean conservation. Today, O’Neill carries on the spirit of Jack O’Neill in protecting our maritime playgrounds through ocean initiatives, controlling the supply chain, and expanding the O’Neill Blue sustainable product collection.
